Background
Student one (who for reference well shall call Brett) is a young man who is around the age of nine and when asked what he would like to be when he is older came up with responses like so; “I would like anything with math, or maybe a ninja! But you know I would like to be that students who skips al the grades and goes straight to college, you think I can do that?”. He is in the fourth grade and is in the process of learning how to work with fractions (such as multiplying fractions). I have observed at times that this student, who is in AIG does not struggle with his math. I have also noticed that at times in place be becomes bored and starts to blurt out words. This student was able to perform all task correctly and seemed to be bored in the subject area. He mentioned how this was so easy for him. At the beginning, he was excited to be a part of this interview, but towards the end, you could tell this was not what he thought it would be. There were no modifications set in place for this students, seeing that he was AIG and it was prominent. We stayed on the fourth grade level because this is getting close to the end of the year and I wanted to see for myself where these students are going into the EOG. My main concern at this point was to see if they knew the fourth grade material or not. I understand that learning student frustration level and independent/instructional level is also important, but for my learning in this project I wanted to see student working on material that would be found on grade level. It was important for me to see, as a future teacher, what I could do better to make sure all my students are on or near grade level. I understand that the learning speed of all students are different but I would want to help those who struggle and get them where they need to
