By asking the students guiding questions throughout the whole lesson, they were always engaged and participating. In the introduction of the lesson the students got to respond with what they thought visualization meant. Many students were smiling and engaged during this point of the lesson because that was not a very difficult task and they were able to come up to the board to draw what they thought. The guiding questions and thumbs up thumbs down informal assessment kept the students on their toes and kept them focused …show more content…
We each knew what we were going to say, but the transition from teacher to teacher was a bit awkward at times. By practicing these transitions, we would have been clearer with our directions. This would improve better support for student learning and decrease the silence after we asked questions. Also, I would change the amount of time that I played with my hair. It could have been distracting for the students and conveyed a nervous energy. Another change that I would make would be to make sure that I was talking to all of the students in the room, not just the ones in front of me. If we had more time to set up I would have moved that tables around so that every one was facing the board. The camera was set up in front of us so we were all speaking to the camera, students in front of us, and the professor who was grading us. The students towards the back unfortunately received less eye contact than the students in the front. Although there are always many changes to make the last one that I thought of was that we shouldn’t call on the first student who raised their hand. Given the time restraints we did not allow much wait time, however it is important to give enough time for the students to think about the question, formulate their answer and gain confidence to raise their hand (Stahl,

I loved the way Mr. Hossack conducted this particular lesson because of the way the students took responsibility for their own learning! The way he guided them through a complex process was brilliant. Desired Results-- learning objectives: Mr. Hossack not only posted the class objectives on the board, he discussed them with the class and made sure they understood the vocabulary used in the objective as well as what learning outcome to expect. The students were clearly accustomed to discussing the objectives before beginning the activities. Assessment Evidence Mr. Hossack used both formal and informal methods of assessment.…

Currently, I am taking Advance Literacy Practices and the student I am tutoring a hates reading and writing. Our lesson plans reflect reading and writing, so I need to create meaningful and engaging lessons. Interactive writing, such as roll-a-story and sharing the pencil has worked well for this student in particular. However, I know that all students are not the same, meaning that some lessons may not work for every student or class. As an educator, I know that lesson plans I create are going to be continually evolving, by reflecting on lessons it allows you to determine what needs changing.…

When students can relate and visualize what is happening in the class or in the text they are reading, they are more likely to be engaged and understand the material. The teacher candidate believes that Mr. Smith should have taught a few of these words prior to the students reading the book. “Some teachable words are introduced before the first read-aloud. These are words whose meaning are crucial to the overall understanding of the story” (Honig, 2013 p.…

Parents Should Be in the Process of Developing Their Children’s Literacy Skills Imagine if LeBron James only practiced his profession fives day out of week and only for two hours a day. That includes practicing on the court, watching film, and working out in the weight room. If he actually had that work ethic, then he would be a pretty lousy basketball player. As the teaching session progressed, the students remained focused and paid attention to the topics on the PowerPoint and the extra explanations I was saying. They continued to actively participate by answering various questions and completing their notes with the missing key words. The general delivery of the teaching went well as shown by an average SET score of 4.2 for question 1 (Table 1). I spoke in a clear and concise manor which enabled the students to understand my descriptions and explanations of concepts clearly, and allowed them to have enough time to make any extra notes they wanted to write. Many students said that it was a “clear presentation and was easy to understand.”…

Reflection of Class Lesson The teaching methods that I used in my lesson incorporated a variety of the Universal Design for Learning Principles and co-teaching strategies, which supported all of the students in the classroom, including students with disabilities and exceptionalities. As a means for engagement, I explained in my warm-up why learning root words is important for the students’ future lives, which relates the material to real life situations that they can relate to in their own circumstances (National Center on UDL, 2016). During the PowerPoint portion of the lesson, I called upon students by using a randomizer to actively operate the white board, which engages them by interacting with me, the mentor teacher, and their peers in…
