Student Learning Capacities: My Journey Into Savanna High School

A memory that I will have engraved into my mind forever is the feeling of walking into Savanna High School as a freshman and being astonishingly nervous. The thought of getting lost in what seemed like such an enormous school at the time made me nervous, but during the past three years of my high school career, I’ve learned that one shouldn’t be scared to try new things, having new experiences can change you as a person, and quite frankly that the school was not as huge as I had anticipated. Even though I may not remember all of the equations I learned in math or the formulas used for physics or all of the information from history, the Student Learning Capacities are objectives that I will always remember because these capacities made me realize the importance of being able to be a critical thinker, accountable, communicate well, be culturally competent, and most importantly, be a digital age learner. Being Globally Aware and Culturally Competent means that you understand what is occurring around the world very well and that’s something I don’t know much about, but I try to understand as much as I can. The capacity of being a Digital Age Learner is a capacity that I struggle with as well because technology is not necessarily my forte. I’ve never been the greatest with technology and living in a place where technology is everything makes my life just a little bit more complicated. I know that it is just something that is going to need some getting used to and will require some improvement as well, especially if I decide to be a radiologist or work in the film
