Most students participate in sports and clubs and have a limited amount of time after school to do hours of homework. On average, a “high school student spends three and a half hours a day on homework”(Bidwell) and about two and a half to three hours (Fitzhugh) a day on sports, and that is not counting travel to games or meets and the games or meets themselves. Those numbers add up to about six hours a night of sports and homework. If a student immediately did their homework after school at three, they would not be finished until nine o’clock at night, and this is not even counting large, time consuming projects and essays. When a student is assigned a lot of homework and also has to attend a cross country race that is an hour away from the school, they won’t get home until late at night, making it so they are up late into the night, which affects their performance in classes the next day. However, if the “teacher does not assign enough homework, the students would not have enough practice with certain topics” (Bean), such as vocabulary or mathematics. Teachers would appreciate acknowledging the schedules of their students so they know what a reasonable amount of work would be. However, there are many restrictions. Some states have a legality issue, where they do not allow student’s to have input or comments on how they are taught. Due to this, many states, such as Connecticut, allow the school districts to decide whether or not student-teacher evaluations are allowed
