Student Involvement

There is generally no particular reason why some students have varying success, but most happen to not be as involved as others in activities ranging from sports or organizations and clubs. Usually there is a combination of factors that can contribute to making this as minuscule of a problem as possible. For a long time students and faculty have dealt with the absence of student involvement at West St. Mary High school. This must be put to an end with the lack of student involvement it shows students have worse grades, horrible communication skills, and a lack of school spirit. This could be solved by making minor school changes, or giving incentives to students so that they will be encouraged to participate in school activities. Most students …show more content…
The involvement within and outside of school not only affects the students, but also the school as a whole. If West St. Mary High School’s administrative staff come together and pick the students that are most involved and ask them a few survey questions about what they would like to improve this would be a great start to solving the problem. From here the results can be posted so that students that aren’t so involved can vote on certain activities they would like to participate in or would like to happen at the school during the academic year. This will give the administrators a look into the eye of a scholar who is highly involved in student life. This method should work because, once again, students are getting involved to make school more fun. Giving students a voice and a choice promotes wellness in all areas. Students have more confidence due to being able to make a decision. Most students will tune out of a lecture or an assignment if they feel that their ideas lack importance and don’t matter. When given a voice and a choice in the classroom it shows students that their opinions are not going unheard and in addition this gives students more courage to tell their perspective on opinions or …show more content…

Fitness and Goal Setting Knowledge Fitness and goal setting have been the main topic of conversation in this class. Whether we need to work on legs or arms today, or what we are going to do in the future. I learned that it is better to do quantity over quality when it comes to fitness workouts, and that it is always important to stretch and warm up your muscles before a workout to ensure you do not strain any muscles. For goal setting, I learned that if you pick a specific goal that you wish to achieve, like say to reach +10 in the fitness flexibility test, you can keep working towards that goal step by step, or in this case number by number, to reach your goals efficiently. When reaching towards a goal, you cannot just make it in one try…

Findings from this study suggest an urgent need to redefine student involvement for the non-traditional student. There needs to be a separate definition of involvement for non-traditional students who do not have the time or capacity to engage in co-curricular activities but are persisting to graduation. Educators must be strategic in engaging non-traditional students in the classroom as that is where most involvement occurs. Interactions with peers and faculty are how non-traditional students stay involved and bring a wealth of life and work experience with them when they enter higher education (Compton et al., 206). Moreover, administrators must also review additional ways to support non-traditional student involvement.…

Personal Philosophy of the Student Affairs Field Reflecting on my personal college experience and those of my peers, I believe that the field of Student Affairs provides a unique and even essential opportunity to help shape the experience that student’s receive within the university setting. I strongly believe that students gain more from their college experience learning and growing outside of the classroom rather than inside. Self-discovery and personal exploration through extra-curricular activities and interpersonal interactions guide students through their academic careers and develop who they wish to become as an adult facing the “real world.” Student Affairs professionals help to ensure that each student begins their track to self-discovery…

Student Body vs ASB First of all, ASB helps work to make sure school activities, clubs, all finances and fundraising, dances, spirit weeks, pep rallies, honorees, posters and flyers, etc are in order. Some are arguing upon the idea that the student body should be the ones making the decisions to dances and school activities and ASB should improve on student engagement. Yes, ASB should improve on student engagement and try to get them to be more involved with school. However, it is hard for ASB because even though ASB is trying to engage with them, they are not responding.…

I believe it is the university’s responsibility to keep students excited, involved, and engaged, both inside and outside of the classroom. I feel like a lot is expected of college students, meanwhile juggling their own responsibilities, they work hard, stressful hours that can be tough. They deserve all the benefits and extras that a college campus can offer.…

What’s Wrong with Student Governments.. (Glass, 1975) Lack of support from students; student apathy is present across campuses, If students are to view student government or any student organization as an effective and meaningful arena for participation, then it has to be so. Bureaucratization, elitism, and under representation; the often complex bureaucracy which often times parallel administration/federal government is one which students do not understand and acts as a barrier to participation. Many organizations have an undemocratic representational structure which do not guarantee the representation of all students in a proportional manner (example – at large elections).…

Active involvement at school benefits both the student and the greater school community by developing students with varied interests and passions. Fortunately, many high schools, including St.John's, have a diverse portfolio of clubs and extracurricular activities like sports, drama, and community service for student participation. Involvement beyond the traditional classroom strengthens the bonds between the student community by bringing together like-minded students in a more social setting. Expansion of their social network on school campuses makes for happier students, and happier students do better in class. Additionally, college recruiters favor students with a more diverse set of interests and activities outside of the classroom, as…
