The interaction between student and teacher is what I would hope a student-teacher interaction would be. For the most part, the teachers spoke in a friendly manner. What I mean by this is that the teacher were always kind and they did not dismiss the students opinion. The teachers were not purposely hateful or had a vendetta against any of the students. Even if the student mentioned something that was not on topic the teacher would say ‘Let’s discuss this later/ during recess/after class/ after this lesson and focus on this first’. In addition, if a student finished early then the teacher would ask them about their night or if they did that exciting thing that they were going to do. In fact, Mrs. Bicknell had a can of Popsicle sticks with student’s name on them and she would pick on then they would get to answer the question. Other teachers just said if you have not answered a question raise your hand and that is how they got picked. Therefore, there was not a teacher who called on more girls than boy or one race more than the other; teachers tried to make it as fair as possible by calling on everyone. The student’s conversations were not completely academic. One group of girls’ conversations, was about nail and how another girl in the class had fake nails. Other groups talked about what they were doing later. One of the only academic conversations that I heard was during a math game center where the students we talking about what eight time four is and as a table they had to solve it together. I learned that teachers have better behaved students is they are friendly and speak to their students kindly. In addition, I also learned that one should not dismiss a student’s thoughts just because it is not about the current topic. Instead, teacher should have students save that topic for a little bit later. Of that 459 students, approximately thirty-eight percent of students are black, almost twenty-percent of students are Hispanic, almost twenty-one percent are white, little over nine percent are Asian, little more than three percent identify as two race and less than one percent identify as American Indian or Pacific Islander. Furthermore, the gender distribution at this school is forty-eight percent female and fifty-two percent male, which is almost equal. Also, at Kings Trail Elementary, there is not any students who are in the gifted program. However, that may be due to the face that twenty-five percent of students have limited English proficiency skills. To break this down further by race, sevemty-three percent of Asian students have limited English proficiency and forty-nine percent of Hispanic/Latino student have limited English proficiency. Two percent of black student and fifteen percent of white student also have limited English skills. Next, there is about seven percent of students that have learning disabilities. Lastly, the school has twenty-nine full time teachers, which means that the student to teacher ratio is about sixteen to one. The demographics of this school affect it because when one views that testing result. One can see that it is in the bottom twenty percent.
