I started becoming fascinated with medicine at a young age. I would like to say that it started off with general curiosity, however it started off with my cousin in the hospital. She was 6 years old and was diagnosed with pneumonia. I remember going to the hospital and not being able to see her in person, but my mom would show me pictures of her. In these pictures, she had tubes in her body, and suddenly she did not look like my cousin anymore. Time passed, and everyone in my family was getting ready for her passing. She was staying at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, where she was given amazing care by the physicians and nurses, and she was starting to get better. I wondered how it was possible for someone so young to be going from their deathbed …show more content…
Through this program, I have been guided by mentor, Amina Gonzalez and a cohort of 22 students. I am taking my medical school prerequisites with my cohort, and have been loving my science classes, for although they are challenging, I learn a lot about how life works. We have had multiple workshops and presentations, that have made me informed me on how to apply to medical school, how to be a competitive candidate, and what to expect. Moreover, joining Phi Delta Epsilon has helped me see what I can do by going to medical school and becoming a doctor. One of my favorite workshops I attended was the suture workshop because it gave me hands on experience. Phi Delta Epsilon has also helped me become a leader, from taking up chair positions to being on the Executive Board. Being with like minded individuals that have the same passion help me stay on track to become a physician. Furthermore, through my experience in the Clinical Access Shadowing Experience Program at the CSUN Klotz Student Health Center, I was able to gain skills on taking vitals and talking to patients. Something I loved about the program was that the doctors would ask me, “What could this patient have?” It got me to think and apply my problem solving

Since my second semester at UT, I have devoted 15 hours a week to volunteering as a Young Life leader. Every week I help run a club meeting for dozens of high school kids, manage a planning meeting with my teammates, and lead a small group for sophomore girls. I spend hours at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School watching games and performances, and simply getting to know these young adults. Through investing this time to build relationships as a mentor and role model, I strove to show these girls that they are significant, noticed and valued. Volunteering as a Young Life leader has taught me invaluable lessons in building relationships, caring for others, and working with a team that will help me to be a more supportive and productive physician…

Compassion and tolerance is key to being a nurse. There is no point of caring for other human beings especially those who are ill, if you can not be CARING. Nurses are just as important as any physician, just because they didn't earn a PhD, nurses are still just as helpful as any doctor in the medical field.…
