According to the Shropshire article, students cheat for two main reason; the first reason is that cheating is easy and the risks are low, and the second and most notable reasons is that students are “unclear of what constitutes as academic dishonesty” (2004). Most all students can agree that traditional plagiarism would definitely be considered academic dishonestly. Nevertheless, self-plagiarism is concept that not many would assume as a variety of plagiarism; however, it can be argued that is just as severe an offense as traditional plagiarism. Building on that, academic dishonesty wholly undermines the purpose of graduate school. It is quite likely that a student is going to run into the opportunity to reuse previous bits of work they have submitted. But it most certainly is not ethical, or beneficial, to continually resubmit the same works over and over again. Whether we are aware of it or not, ethics and making ethical decisions are surrounding us; from school, to daily living, to major historical events. It is our job, especially in the field of psychology, to think of other needs outside our own and make a decision based on what is right for
