The biggest challenge that new student generation, especially middle class face is that they feel less obligation to finish college. Most of the students in nowadays are expecting to attend college, do well and get their degrees. Consequently, not having the money to pay tuition keeps students from finishing college. Therefore, an increase in tuition would encourage students to drop out of college. Two authors Sanford Ungar in “The new Liberal Arts.” and Robert Reich in “College is a ludicrous waste of money.” with contrast perspectives of the ideas in their articles describe higher education and how useful it is. He talks about liberal arts degrees cost and it’s importance for students. Ungar says liberal art is a great choice to have a degree and be able to work. In contrast, Reich believes that liberal art degrees are very expensive and not many people can afford it. For lot of reason liberal arts students cannot finish their college successfully. Even when they graduate then they will feel failures. Reich aknowleges, “Other drop out of college because they’re either unprepared or unsuited for a four-year liberal arts curriculum” (1). Many students struggle to attend college especially middle class. Some students drop out of college when they can not go forward and feel stressed. Ungar’s article is slant more toward liberal arts degree, while Reich’s article is more about community colleges and difficulties of liberal arts degree to afford. Ungar uses examples and experiences to support his ideas in the argument. He states, “A 2009 survey for the Association of American Colleges and Universities actually found that more than three-quarters of our nation’s employes recommended that college bound students pursue a “liberal education” (192). These statistics support his rational background for his argument. Furthermore, he mentions his research on percentage of community skills for students and their creativeness. Although, Reich suggests that community colleges are being more successful and suitable. As community colleges provide more opportunities of success for students and help them to get good jobs. In today’s time technology is changing so fast and the knowledge about specific career becoming abandoned. For new students generation is better to choose a two year college and get their degrees instead of spending a huge money on expensive liberal art colleges. Lower class are not able to pay of their tuition loan and support their livelihood at the same time when they can not find a job to maintain their
