Student Dress Code Research Paper

How does my ripped jeans depict who I am? Things that I like are things that administrators reject. With the student dress code many students have been subjected to consequences, like ISS and being sent home, which obstructed learning and being able to show their personality. Dress code does not give me the rights that are written in the amendment. As it says in the constitution, we have the right to express ourselves. Students should be able to wear clothing of their choice because wearing uniforms does not decrease violence or bullying, it would help students maturity, and it is a way for them to showcase what individuality looks like. It is important to be comfortable in your own skin but we should understand that school is like a workplace. A student should know what is and is not appropriate so this action requires responsibility. Yes administrators are there to guide students in the right direction, but I do not think a visible bra strap would be considered as a bad gesture. We live in a dynamic society full of unique people who make our world a spontaneous one. The goal of young females is to look presentable but instead they get the issue of being too seductive. Different standards are applied to girls who are more curvy and developed. Boys should be more mature when it comes to a girl’s ensemble rather than sexualizing their image. Whenever the excuse “boys will be boys” is used it is just another exercise of male privilege. Embracing sexualization does not even lead to a healthier attitude about sex; quite the opposite. Many female students feel offended by all these rules just because the natural instinct of a male is to turn and look.
