Student engagement is considered to be of the most vital factors of classroom learning and personal development. The more students apply their lessons to the outside world, the more students will be able to retain that information and expand on it.
The reason why interactive activities, such as the ones done in class, are so effective is because we get a chance to be involved in the way we learn. The very traditional style of learning is by sitting, listening to the teacher and hopefully retaining as much information as possible. But the process of learning can never just be this simple. Most times dull teachers, with even duller teaching styles make class material hard to absorb and almost mind-numbing. In order to break this cycle of student disengagement, students need to be introduced to innovative and captivating methods that keep them involved and more in control of their education.
From activities such as these, students will no longer feel like they have less to contribute in class because their ideas do not fit the mold of what they are thought. They can now be acknowledged by their own unique ideas and expose themselves and learn different views and perspectives. Students should not be constricted to fit the mold of the that common education systems provide. They should go beyond that by making personal connections, exploring new ideas and perspectives, but most of all engaging their minds.
