In my high school, nutrition classes were not offered so I was never exposed to any nutrition education. I was very interested in cooking and baking in high school and I thought I was going to go to Johnson and Wales to become a pastry chef. However, my sweet tooth dwindled and I attended Rowan University as an undeclared major my freshman year to explore more areas of study. It was not the various courses I took at Rowan University that showed me that Nutrition and Dietetics is a field but, a friend I met along the way educated me daily on healthful eating and enhanced my nutrition education. I instantly became fascinated and I knew I wanted to know more but Rowan University did not have a didactic program for dietetics so I had to transfer to West Chester University half way through my sophomore year. Once I started studying nutrition, I was able to correctly practice what I preached. I became my own case study and lost 10 to 15 pounds after slowly implementing healthy …show more content…
In order to further expose myself to the world of dietetics I became an active member with the Student Dietetics Association at WCU. Once a week I attended meetings to learn more about the professions in dietetics and went on food tours to cities like Philadelphia and New York City. Lindholm explains that leadership in the Student Association of Nutrition and Dietetics at Kansas State University as well as undergraduate coursework prepared her for grant writing by increasing her understanding of organizational structure and improving her writing skills. She notes that her dietetic internship at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas gave her a greater understanding of food service management that somewhat relates to her management responsibilities at NTFB. The key to Lindholm’s educational background is her nutrition understanding that allows her to communicate the significance of giving clients quality food to meet the spectrum of their nutritional needs. As a registered dietitian and full-time employee, Lindholm expresses dedication to consulting on the nutritional quality of foods for all programs. An example of her influence is the development of Community Gardens program that increases the provision of fresh produce to clients.…

Many children and adults spend less time preparing food and more time eating processed food or fast food (Ng, Popkin, and Smith, 2013). If families and individuals learned how to prepare food, then they are more likely to use the skill. My mother taught me how to prepare my lunches before the week started. This has helped me eat healthy and save money by not eating fast food during college. Creating nutrition and cooking classes would also align with Health People 2020’s goals because they are targeting teaching the community healthy behaviors and habits, along with improving the behaviors in all groups of the…

Being a part of this organization takes a lot of dedication and hard work, but it is worth it because there are people out there who are less fortunate that depend on this food. My volunteering experiences have allowed me to develop my communication skills with people from different backgrounds and have taught me to treat everyone the same. These skills will be helpful when I counsel different types of patients for this profession and will allow me to encourage them to follow their medication procedures to speed up their…

This was the first time I saw all the works that go into carrying out a study. I was eager to learn all of the process from preparing for the project and assessing participants to gathering and inputting data into NDSR. Diets have become a part of mainstream culture. Almost every person has tried at least one. However, it is a known fact that Americans today weigh more than before. Why is it that when more people than ever are trying to monitor their food intake, that the weight of Americans is still increasing? Over the course of this class, I have learned many new things about diet, health, and proper nutrition for a long life. I am grateful for this class, because otherwise, I would probably still have that unhealthy diet. Nutrition taught me a lot, and I am ready now to follow all that it taught me, and I think I have the knowledge now to teach the people around me about it too.…
