My time spent this term in this student development class has been immensely positive and beneficial. Throughout the course of this spring term in this class we covered various way to improve our academic and study habits. Though there are some portions that stood out in helping me the most and motivated me to learn more about them. Those portions also pushed me to put them into practice during this term and of course moving towards the future. These portions included but were not limited to, preparing to learn, focusing, and the essay section. I loved the preparing to learn section because it was something that I had never thought about before. I stated in class that I we apply preparation to many other facets of our life. I was taught that essays can actually be really simple to begin. First you structure your essay with the thesis statement, then continue on with the three or four general reasons on why your thesis is correct. Then, of course you go throughout the paper and explain, in detail, why those points are correct and how they support your thesis statement. The conclusion then is just basically retelling the introduction. Ending emphatically, restating why the above argument prove you are correct in regards to the subject at hand. If the paper is longer then you merely add more points to talk about and make sure that you flesh out the essay with beautiful language to add …show more content…
If I have an assignment that is due in a short amount of time I will focus my efforts to complete the work in short sporadic moment during the day well before the assignment is actually due. My natural ability when it comes to writing helps when I have to work on papers, or jot down some notes, and if I add in what I learned in this class it is now going to help step it up another level. Another strength is that when I pick up an interest or find an actual goal to work towards I can usually achieve it with relative ease as well. I will now add in the fact that I can better manage my time into this goal

Chapter 28 in The Norton Introduction to Literature talks about the elements of an essay. An essay is a short written assignment that develops and supports and idea that the essay is written about. Each essay has a reason for being written. Essays about arguments are meant to convince someone of their view point, while an essay about analysis is supposed to breakdown and explain something to the reader. Essays should include four things: a thesis, structure, evidence, and tone.…

I learned that Focus student number one increased his percentage from the baseline to the assessment by 20%. The baseline data showed that focus student number one received 70% accuracy when identifying and sorting shapes differing in only one key attribute: shape. The percentage of 70% represents that this was new vocabulary for the child, but at the same time not too challenging. The assessment data showed that focus student number one received 90% accuracy when identifying and sorting shapes differing in two key attributes: shape and size. Two key attributes were chosen for the assessment because as time passed, the child became comfortable with only one key attribute.…

There are three strategies that I use when it comes to planning my essay the first strategy that I choose is determine the type of essay it is. For example, is it an essay that is going to cause me to evoke emotion and try to get my point of view across or is going to be an essay that is simply informational? Once that is determined, I then try to ensure that I find a way to write down all of my thoughts and ideas about the topic. Lastly, when it comes to planning my essay I like to formulate my thesis so I have a clear picture of exactly what the body of my essay is going to be about. When it comes to an argumentative essay the items that define the essay are the development of the argument, refuting the opponent argument, and the conclusion summarization the argument irrefutably.…

Unless I have a very strict and short deadline, my writing process begins with thinking and reading about the topic or subject matter of my paper. I don’t do a structured free writing or idea mapping session, but rather just read a bit to get familiar with the subject matter and to get my brain thinking about the subject. Once I am ready to begin writing. I start with the thesis statement is on the topic, is formatted correctly, and matches the purpose of the essay.…

I have always struggled with writing essays and they’ve never come easily to me. I used to sit in my room, in the middle of the night, just staring at a screen, for what would feel like hours. Wondering, “When am I going to finish this paper, or even, start it?” The writing process is lengthy and has many steps, such as reading, brainstorming, creating an outline and a rough draft, editing, and finally having a final draft. These steps can help anyone write a decent and fully developed paper.…

Over the course of the semester, I have learned all of the skills necessary to excel in school and college. Some of the most important things I have learned were how to manage time and how to be an active reader. Before learning how to manage my time, I would easily get distracted and procrastinate but now I have learned how to get everything done in a timely manner. Also, before the course I would struggle to comprehend what my textbook said but thanks to the course, I now spend the time to reevaluate what I am reading to fully understand the material. Other helpful lessons I have learned from this class were how to take good, helpful notes and what kind of learner I am.…

In my opinion, a good introduction and thesis is what allows an essay to flow. The introduction of an essay sets the tone of the paper. If the introduction of a paragraph is poor, then the rest of the paper will be poor. I was able to determine what I wanted to discuss however I was unable to convey an introduction and thesis that correctly set the tone for my essays. The words in my introductions seemed to be filled with wordiness, awkwardness, and poor word choice.…

Before even entering high school, I made a decision that would ruin the next few years. Looking back, I had no idea it would have impacted me as much as it did, but even now I still wouldn’t have changed that decision. Everything that came after that decision, no matter how difficult, shaped me into who I am today, and I was able to meet some pretty amazing people and do a few things only a handful of people can say they’ve done. In elementary school, I was in the S.C.O.P.E. (Spotsylvania County Program of Enrichment) program, my county’s way of separating out students who they considered gifted and a distraction in the classroom.…

This current semester I had the opportunity to do a project that allowed me to visit one of my friend’s family to observe her three girls. I observed her three daughters to see how each one of them is developing. I was fortunate enough to have three different ages that are at different stages of life.
