Personal Statement
At first, I was too timid to get involved in school activities and used to think that they were pointless clubs and organizations. I was ignorant about the values that I could gain when volunteering in the community and school, and discouraged by the lack of authority from African Americans in my high school, which has, unfortunately, always been this way. A majority of minorities at Puckett High School do not even attempt to run for student council or class officer positions. I soon, however, realized the importance of these extracurriculars and began to obtain leadership roles. For instance, I am a part of two church organizations and have a leadership role in both. I am the secretary of the Young Women’s Auxiliary and

Leadership is defined as being a leader of an organization or a group of individuals. To me a leader is someone who will give their all to accommodate someone in obligation of assistance. A leader doesn’t give up on hard task and pushes to be an example for their peers. I have demonstrated my leadership in and out of school by being a responsible, honest and hardworking individual, who expresses empathy to help those who didn’t think they could achieve a goal on their own. While in high school I have been in multiple extracurricular activities such as Drill Team, FBLA, FCCLA, Student Council, Class Treasurer, NHS and Yearbook.…

I am writing this essay in order to earn my place in National Junior Honor Society. I believe that my academic skills meet that of what is required of this group. I have received straight A’s every quarter of the two completed years of middle school which means that I also subsequently received High Honors those quarters as well. I haven’t ever received a detention or an A.C.E. of any kind, and I intend to keep it that way.…

The club is compromised of an open-minded, diverse collaboration of youth who diligently fight for racial equality. Ethnic tension has always been extremely prevalent at my school--students often choose to segregate themselves by hues of skin pigmentation. At the root of this tension is restless silence on the most controversial topics, and thus Black Student Union was created to spark intelligent dialogue and debate on racial issues. Growth flourishes at every meeting, newfound respect and comprehension generated between students of vastly divergent backgrounds. I channel my pride in my black heritage into the empowerment of local black students and education on cross-racial understanding that takes place at BSU.…

Before addressing why Pitt is a good choice for me, I would like to review why I am a good choice for Pitt. The University of Pittsburgh values their “talented, diverse and high achieving students”, their “safe and healthy campuses”, their unique balance of “fun and camaraderie with internships and other learning opportunities outside the classroom”, and their focus on “developing students into global citizens” (University of Pittsburgh webpage, ‘Prospective Students’). I am a well-rounded student who places priority upon academics, as well as a broad array of performing arts extracurricular activities, over 300 hours of community service, several job experiences and religious organizations. Therefore, if admitted to The University of Pittsburgh, I would fit right in with the ardent and accomplished student body, just as I would benefit as a person and as…

Personal Statement Almost everyone had a rod in hand as they walked through the main street headed for the pier or docks to try and reel in a tasty morsel for dinner. In my small fishing village surrounded by serene mountains and lush waters, I grew up distant from many of life’s amenities and creature comforts. Surrounded by family and relatives, I lived in a capsule of love. Little did I know that in several years, I would be on a plane bound for the United States, uncertain about my future but resolve in my dreams.…

Upon entering college, my high school career has set me apart from being a “normal” graduate. My unique personal interests, like volunteering at the animal shelter, define me as a passionate and hardworking individual. I have taken on a special interest in my friends at my local animal shelter, and with my free time, I enjoy helping wash dogs, playing with puppies, and cleaning kennels. The time I spend there is not only beneficial for the shelter, but also for me. I have learned the pay off for working at the shelter is worth a lot more than a few service hours.…

Besides the teamwork and communication skills that I have developed through participation in interscholastic activities, taking part in these events has given me the opportunity to meet new people, step out of my comfort zone, and discover more about myself. I have met many students from other schools through participation in extracurricular activities, and as a result, I have established friendships and other connections with people from all over North Dakota. Interscholastic activities have also helped me overcome my insecurity and step outside my comfort zone. When I was in junior high, I was shy and did not feel comfortable pushing myself beyond what I thought I could do. Today, because of the skills I have developed through activities…

Growing up in such an environment made me terrified of police officers, the very same people who are supposed to make one feel safe.…
