Student Athletes Persuasive Essay

Decent Essays
As a student athlete myself, I am standing here on behalf for us all when I say teachers should have a deadline on when they submit assignment scores into the gradebook. Many of us students overall do care greatly about our grades, and if students are failing one of their classes, they would want to know as soon as possible to fix the issue. With that said, grades should concern student athletes even more. An athlete that does not know they are failing a class is not given a fair chance to improve their grade before their next game or meet. This athlete may not be able to participate because of a teacher’s late notice to them. All the hard work that student has put into their sport/activity will just be a waste that was not even their fault

High School Sports Should high schools be all about education, and grades? I couldn’t see myself getting up in the morning excited to learn trigonometry. Let alone be happy in a place like my school. My point would be that I only come to school because I find motivation in the sports that this school has to offer. I tell myself I have to turn my homework in, or I need to read this page, and study so I can pass my test to play Friday night.…

For some time, schools have been debating whether they should get rid of sports to help students improve their education. Many studies have found that schools that provide after school athletics are shown to have a lower academic rate. Therefore, school sports should be cut off because they are a distraction from school work, cost a great deal of money, and cause fatigue. Many student athletes know that their extra-curricular sports may take away from their education.…

High school sports teach time management in many ways. For example, “If you know you’ll miss class/test or assignment because of sports, talk with your teacher earlier rather than later to ensure you cover all of your academic bases,” (Keeping). Sometimes students must leave early for a sport and may miss a class. Teachers will not chase those students around trying to figure out what work they have missed, it is up to the student to make up the work. Also, “If your teacher gives you advanced notice on tests, projects or book assignments…do a little each day rather than cramming everything the night before it is due,” (Keeping).…

Imagine a high school athlete, head spinning from tests and quizzes and homework grades, mind swimming with due dates and deadlines, trying not only to balance the hardships high school offers but also juggling his passion of football. Imagine after all his hard work, one of his grades slipped and now he is forced to cut his sport. Do students really deserve this kind of pressure? That is why the no pass, no play rule is a ridiculous rule to follow, since not only does this add extra stress to an average person's head, this rule also completely ignores the fact that students who have learning disabilities and use sports as an escape from their struggles are stripped away of their passion. Sports also has many benefits that not even school can…

Jerson Rodriguez Summer homework Grades There are a lot of discussions that are taking place in classrooms based on the way students are graded. In some cases, students feel as if their final grades do not represent their overall performance in the classroom, but test scores are a major factor in our grades and one slip may cause your grade to drop unfairly. Our final grades in all of our courses are heavily dependent on our midterms and final test scores and that is no secret. Imagine if a student were to fail their midterm or final that is a huge blow to their final grade towards that subject and students know that if they fail some sort of test especially a midterm or final their average most certainly drops. The question…

Being a student athlete is a wonderful thing in high school, despite a lot of people only acknowledge the athlete part and not the student part. I believe that academics come first and if a high school student wants to be an athlete, then getting good grades should be a requirement. It should be mandatory for teachers and coaches to check the grades of student athletes weekly to determine whether students are performing academically well or not. The students that aren’t doing well should be dismissed from any further games and practices until their grades improve. It is important that student athletes maintain good grades because the work that they put into their school performance carries with them through life, putting too much of an emphasis…
