Student athletes typically work hard for their sports and on their grades. The only way student athletes can stay ahead of their busy schedule is by working ahead of time. Many student athletes pick up positive character traits throughout their sports career such as being mentally tough. Student athletes must learn to be prepared for all of the challenges they may face. Participating in a sport is more than just using skills to reach a goal on a field or a court. The lessons learned while being a student athlete tend to carry on into adulthood. Being a student athlete comes with many benefits such as being a younger child’s idol/hero and creating new relationships. Unfortunately, there are many negative effects of being a student athlete. Stress is a huge problem in a student athlete’s life. Some of the common effects of being a student athlete are developing physical abilities, constantly balancing long hours of practice, dealing with homework, not being able to go to social events, and having less …show more content…
Getting done with practice late means that when athletes go home to study they will have to stay up late studying. Staying up late studying, results in the athlete not getting enough sleep. Getting enough sleep is very important for successful athletics and academics. If a student athlete is not able to keep up his or her grades, the athlete will no longer be able to play sports. Another effect of being a student athlete is that the athlete is usually sore or tired all the time. From all the required workouts to practice running late into the evening, the athlete has hardly any time to sit down and relax. Occasionally, when an athlete is tired or sore, the person typically does not give his or her best effort in practice. Not giving the best effort prevents athletes from bettering themselves and reaching their full potential; consequently, affecting the team’s overall
