Rookie police officers may began their career with ethical and moral integrity, but after becoming accustomed to the job these young Police Officers may lose their good moral integrity. The cause of this is clear that it is happening due to the senior officers not providing the newcomers with the proper moral training that is needed. For these new officers that come into a department, that are trying to stand by their moral and ethical backgrounds, it can be difficult for them to stand out while other officers in the department are surely following the ways of corruption. The Rotten Apple hypothesis or “Rogue Cop” is the idea that people such as police officers may have been badly influenced when they were growing up by their peers etc. and are spoiled. The Police Officer that is described in this theory may be involved in criminal activities. It was concluded that there were poor recruitment methods. Another example of this theory could be if you have a young Police Officer who has watched their senior officer go into a store and free food and drinks, they may give some excuse as to why they were able to get these things for free. The young Police Officer goes into the store and comes out with free items as well, not knowing that in the long run the store clerk will ask the officer to do favors in return for them eating for free. The rookie officer may know that what the clerk is asking of him is wrong but because he has given him free items he may feel obligated to do what the clerk has asked of
