Theories Of Structural Functionalism In Educational Education And Secondary Education

Structural functionalism says that the society works together as an organism to create and maintain the institutions in the society. An example of structural functionalism in the society is the educational institution. The government creates the educational institution that is headed by a principal in the secondary level and a president in the tertiary level.
In the case of secondary education, the hierarchy is the principal, vice principal, teachers and then students. This hierarchy is to help put the institution in order so that a common goal will be achieved. One of the goal of the educational institution one can say is to prepare one for the labor force. The Education al institution is built to teach people skills needed by the society, how to socialize in the society and to teach what the role of individuals are in the society. The way the role of individuals is thought in the educational institution is different. One will say public educational institution teaches student to be followers, the prepare students to employee’s. While for the private educational institution one will argue prepare more students to be leaders and entrepreneurs. Everyone cannot be a leader and not everyone is a follower. Those that are to be leaders are known base on their educational level. An example of this, is that, most of our leaders are from the elite group, which one might say have the talent to be a leader. They have the talent to be a leader because they think in a different level from the common man. They have been in possessions where they had to make decisions with something important to them in the line. Someone who has not had to make quick decisions because he has a lot at stake cannot be a good leader in the realistic word. Power they say corrupts, but most of the time a common man who just tasted power are those that get corrupt more when they are in leadership. One can also argue that leaders are chosen with a democratic system in America. But a broader look at the political system shows that most of the leaders in the higher levels of government are those who either went to an elite school, are from an elite family or they are self-made
