The results of the correlation analyses reveal an overall weak relationship between the dependent variables and the independent variables in the random sample. Of the three dependent variables – law enforcement, fire control, and parks and recreation, public services expenditures per capita – and the five independent variables – White, Black, Hispanic, elderly, and poverty – the strongest relationship that exists is between the law enforcement variable and the elderly variable at 0.244368816, as shown in table 2. The weakest relationship that exists is between the parks and recreation variable and the Black variable at 0.030190519, as shown in table 4.
