Genetically Predetermined To Be Smarter Or Stronger?

PART A
Are some races genetically predetermined to be smarter or stronger? What are the arguments saying they are?
In the 1820’s and 30’s there was a man by the name Samuel G. Morton, a physician from Philadelphia, who studied human skulls by measuring them to determine if there was a difference between races specifically in brain size. He believed that the Europeans, especially the English, had the best brain capacity. Next, came the Chinese. Then, came Southeast Asians and Polynesians. Following that, came the American Indians. Last was, Africans and Australians. (Science: 1770s-1850s: One Race or Several Species)
Also, in the early 1900’s there were different intelligence test conducted mainly to “justify racial and ethnic discrimination”.

For example, in the first study I mentioned, Morton measured the size of the skull to determine brain size, so his findings must be accurate and non-bias, right? Then when the intelligence test came about, it made it even easier for people to believe since the results make it seem like the immigrants were dumb when in reality they were just very poorly educated.
Is racism a biologically or sociologically determined construct? Explain.
Racism is a sociologically determined construct. Racism has to do with someone’s negative social beliefs regarding a different race then their own. People are not born racist, but the way they are raised can shape their views as they get older. Children that are around parents or others for a long period of time that are racist have a better chance of becoming racists themselves vs children surrounded by the opposite social environment.

In that time they automatically assumed Europeans were number one and regardless of the findings of the test that was going to be first. So since Asians came second and third, along with Polynesians, they had to be really smart compared to Indians, Africans, and Australian. Also, I did not know that an intelligent test influenced U.S. immigration. It’s interesting that the government used something like that to shape their policies.
Did anything shock you?
Honestly, nothing really shocks me anymore when it comes to racism. I have seen so many movies, shows, and witnessed so many things that I have grown to expect these sorts of things especially when looking back in history.
What would you do today if you saw the government purposefully attempting to discriminate against one race, but not

During the 19th century race was utilized to show inequality between the Europeans African-Americans and Indians to the extent that they were all of separate species. Ultimately, power itself has created these distinctions creating the idea that some are more superior to others by judging not only on appearance, but also dividing and distinguishing certain groups by behavior. Studies today, however, show these beliefs have led to a magnificent amount of errors, especially by those with power and ones who believe it to be the "truth. " One should understand now that behavior is learned depending on various situations rather than being completely link to race.…

There is no doubt that early American race scientists had challenged prejudices of their time yet concurrently created rather racist facts about the human race. Horsman listed some of these prejudices in the reading. The first prejudices that the early race scientists challenged against was going against the Christian monogenetic view that all people came from the same people, Adam and Eve. Although Christians at the time didn’t understand why there were such “savages” in other lands who didn’t look or act like them, it was hard to go against the ingrained idea that humanity was created by the same pair of people. Later on, the idea that men had the ability to change and improve was another idea that race scientists had to battle against.…

In terms of genetics, technology has advanced far enough to map out the human genome. As a population, we have found out that there are no ethnic markers that differentiate us from one another, with genetic variation sometimes being greater between two individuals of the same race than two individuals of different races. Even with the knowledge that the human genome insists the lack of a biological race, the persistence of the basal human need to categorize humans into ethnic categories begs the question as to why race still exists. To answer this question, I find it important to understand the basis for racial differences on an anthropological and genetic level and how race began to be a social construct.…

List the Brazilian folk taxonomy of "tipos" and how to translate "tipos" into U.S. racial categories. Race is a myth. In another word, what looks like a difference in biological variability, is in fact, merely a difference in cultural classification. Similarly, anthropologist have stressed that U.S. racial groups are American cultural structures that depict the way Americans categorize people, rather than it be “a genetically determined reality (Spradley and McCurdy 200).”…

Intelligence refers to general mental ability to learn, solve novel problems, educe relationships, quickly process information accurately, think rationally, act purposefully, originate useful ideas and effectively adapt to one’s environment. Unfortunately, intelligence testing has not been incorporated in Nigerian educational system in spite of the central role that the trait plays in almost all human behaviour. This is largely due to the absence of a test that reliably and validly measures the construct without cultural biases in this country. This thesis therefore validated and standardized Culture Fair Intelligence Test (CFIT) for use in Nigeria, and thus filled the great gap in our educational system. The CFIT was developed by R.B.…
