It could be said that Liz Holt is ambitious, prefers to stick to the rules and will do anything it takes to win. After Scott and Liz loose at the Warathas State Championships, she tells Scott that she does not give a shit about his new steps. She wants Pam Shorts, Ken Railing’s dancing partner to break both her legs so that Ken asks Liz to be his new dance partner. During this scene a choker close-up is used to show angry emotions and she is wearing yellow to emphasise her selfishness.

He wears blue throughout the movie showing us he has only cold emotions. When we are introduced to Barry, a low angle is used indicating that he is important and powerful.
When Shirley reads the article of Tina having no partner and extreme close-up is used, the camera then zooms out as she begins to be excited until a medium close-up is reached, showing her reaction to the exciting news. At this point she is aware that Scott has a new partner, but she is unsure of who it is. Tina is one of the best dancers, together with Scott they are bound to win and Shirley automatically claims her as Scott’s new partner. Scott and Fran enter and Shirley announces that Tina will be Scott’s new dance partner; this leaves Fran heart-broken and upset.
Scott dances with Fran in an area surrounded by red, swaying curtains. This symbolises the passion between them when they dance. Everyone finds them dancing and Liz degrades Fran, causing Fran to fall. The red plays a role in making Liz seem superior to Fran. Tina arrives and everyone’s attention is turned towards
