This counselor received a call from Michael and his father, Tom with some concerns about the JVS Pathways Team. Michael gave permission for his dad to explain their concerns to this counselor. The implementation of the zero tolerance policy seems to be complicated by school administrators’ fear of violence, resulting in exorbitant suspensions and expulsions of students committing minor infractions against school policy. As these negative incidents involving unjustified suspensions of students increase, the drop-out and failure rates will continue to increase as well. However, the incidence of violence and general disobedience in schools must be addressed. Zero tolerance, if focused specifically on verified violent plans or acts, could be an effective policy for dealing with violent behavior and preventing some violence before it occurs.…
The reason that schools have policies and procedures in place is to ensure the safety and well-being of any student of the school, any school staff i.e. teachers, teaching assistants, head- teachers etc. and any outside staff such as cleaners and any sort of contractors. Policies and procedures are also in place to support staff in managing difficult situations such a violent or threatening behaviour. Session five was a big stepping stone for me, I believe I asked questions that guided her and properly validated her feelings, not to mention my powerful use of silence during the whole session. This reflection will shift gears from how I originally lay out my reflections. I usually express the goals I said I would work on and then share the progress I made during the succeeding session. However, I shared my uncertainty about where to take our session after the last one. I believe this doubt helped session five unfold the way it did.…
Did you know that over 2 million US students from over 3000 schools attend year round schooling? Year round schooling should be banned for various reasons such as it causing more behavioral issues, interference with schedules, and just too much school. First of all, year round school should be banned, because it could increase the number of behavioral issues. “Students who have difficulty paying attention are unlikely to get more out of year round schooling. You would think that students would leave lunch with full stomachs and empty trays, but that is not the case anymore. The government has now imposed restrictions on school lunches that has made the food served unappetizing to many students. These restrictions require limited calories, fats, sugars and sodium while emphasizing fruits, vegetables, whole grains, dairy and proteins. This causes there to be very limited tasty options for school cafeterias to serve. Because of this it has resulted in negative responses from students and school districts.…

These laws are put into place to protect the students, faculty, staff, and parents involved in the everyday operations of our schools. For example, Brown v. Board of Education opened the doors for students of all races and nationalities to attend the same schools. School Uniforms School uniforms have been a controversial subject on whether students should wear them or not. There are many ways students can be conservative for school other than wearing a uniform. Therefore, I don’t think uniforms are necessary. School uniforms should not be mandatory because students should be able to express themselves, you pay more for certain uniforms, and it can affect one’s self-image.
