Strict Dress Code

It is odd how the dress code becomes strict in sixth grade. When asked if something changed from elementary to high school sixty-one percent of the students and teachers who took the survey said no. The only comments of the students and teachers who answered why said puberty and sexuality are what change. It is still easy for students to try to wear inappropriate outfits that are otherwise within the dress code. There should be a new less strict dress code that just makes sure students are in clothes that cover enough skin. The dress code will have strict guidelines, so it is not just a judgement call for the teachers. If there is a less strict dress code that will address that concern. In the article school uniforms sociologists David L. Brunsma and Kerry A. Rockquemore conducted a survey on, "the effects of uniforms on attendance, behavior, substance abuse, and academic achievement. Brunsman and Rockquemore concluded that uniforms did not significantly improve any of these criteria and noted a several-point decrease in the standardized test scores of students required to wear uniforms (pg. 2, 2017)." Brusma and Rockquemore show that the uniforms do not help with a lot of issues administrators where most likely trying to solve. Brusma and Rockquemore also state," any positive change brought about by mandatory school uniforms could be a result of the community making a concerted and collective effort to improve the academic environment, and that the uniforms themselves were inconsequential to the positive outcomes (pg. 2, 2011)." Basma and Rockquemore show that to help grades students need effort from the community not a strict dress code.
