In this paper I will discuss the effects of stress on overall health. The article, STRESS AND HEALTH: Psychological, Behavioral, and Biological Determinates, describes into detail about how wide a range of both short and long term effects the body can have when introduced to a stressor. While working on this study, the researchers questioned the effects stress has on people’s lives and how they react to it, taking into account age, childhood experiences, and other personal experiences that could have an effect on one’s response to stress.

This means that they would help individuals who are going through a stressful time get through it and, most importantly, control it. For example, one with PTSD or acute stress disorder would see a health psychologist for help. This is because they are in constant state of stress which is affecting their every day lives. Due to panic and stress’s affects on the heart it’s important to address the physical issues that go along with it. However, the trauma of PTSD and the mental illness that go along with can also be severe. A health psychologist will be able to address both of these concerns. In times of panic and high stress, the heart beats at an accelerated rate and health palpations. Another system is the nervous system, specifically the sympathetic nervous system. When one is confronted with a perceived threat, their sympathetic nervous system causes them to make a decision over whether to address the threat or to run away. This is known as fight or flight.
Health disparities play a big role in this topic. One example of this is someone who is born with a genetic predisposition to depression. Their mental health is completely different than someone born without this and therefore the two may handle the same stressor in different ways. Education over mental health and stress reliefs is also important. The knowledge of how to cope with stress might not easy for everybody to understand. Without the proper resources to get help, one who is genetically predisposed to mental illness might have a harder time controlling the stressors which onset
