Stress can be a reaction to a small situation such as running late for work or it can last a long time if you’re dealing with problems at work, the death of a family member or several of other situations. It can also be defined as a state of emotional strain that normally results from a demanding situations. Stress can become harmful when it starts to interfere with your everyday life. Crum, Alia, Salovey, and Shawn Achor Rethinking Stress (Journal of Personality and Social Psychology) Vol.104, April 2013 pp.716-733 describes about both types of stress. This study was done using the chart system. The subjects were macaque monkeys. These particular monkeys are favored by researchers because they share the hierarchical social structures as humans and they also can become subjected to coronary-artery disease. An anthropologist, Jay Kaplan (Wake Forest University) studied low and high male macaques in captivity. When new macaques were introduce to the group the hierarchy was changed and the old macaques were forced to fight for their position. Psychologists are attempting to understand how stress effects mental functions and how stress can effect a person’s social behavior. Phycology explores the physical and biological process that prime cognitive functions and behavior. It also helps explain human activity. I think this article fits into the overall field of psychology because it is an issue that all humans go through. It can be studied in various ways and it can also be treated. There have been many studies done on stress with various groups and the results are just about the same all over the world. Stress fits into psychology because it is something that can be studied about. It is something humans have in common with each other as well as some animals. This makes it an easier topic to study as well. The field of psychology gives a complete understand of the mind and body and how they come together, with respects to certain areas.
