The peculiar aroma of gym clothes and feet surround you. You try to get as motivated as you can but somedays it seems impossible. Your coach tries to explain to you how to win, but for this game it does not click. You have no feeling inside you except pressure. When you go out on the court, a whole other level of stress takes over you. When you lose, you can not forgive yourself; you get mad for no reason. Schools should put less pressure on kids because pressure is unhealthy and some kids can not handle the stress. Although some people argue a little bit of pressure benefits young athletes, I think there are safer ways to experience stress. One reason why school sports should lower the pressure they put on kids is because it is unhealthy physically and emotionally. According to Dr. Cynthia LaBella, a medical director at Children's Memorial Hospital’s Institute for Sports Medicine, “They can feel burned out, but don’t think it's an option to train less.” Many kids get pressured to continue to train, however sometimes all they need is rest. “On a personal level, I witnessed athlete burnout growing up, when my brother stopped playing …show more content…
They feel it is good for kids to experience healthy competition and added pressure. Part of life is dealing with stress, and having to overcome fears. However, you can experience pressure in other activities. For example, in girl scouts there is competition for who sells the most cookies. Also according to nbcnews.com, “Kids with a strong internal drive may thrive on competition. But the pressure can be too much for others, particularly grade schoolers who aren’t as equipped to deal with the stress as older athletes.” With kids at all different levels of maturity and growth, there will always be kids who can’t take pressure as well as others, or experience enough pressure with school and activities.
