People are exposed to huge amount of stress every day. Stress is defined in the dictionary as a mentally or emotionally disruptive or upsetting condition occurring in response to adverse external influences and capable of affecting physical health, usually characterized by increase heart rate, a rise in blood pressure, muscular tension, irritability, and depression. Stress comes from many different problems in a person’s life. Stress management can be difficult and confusing because there are different types of stress. The four main types of stress are acute stress, episodic acute stress, chronic stress, and post-traumatic stress. Almost everyone has some type of stress and some people cope with stress better than others. Stress is the body’s adaption of change and this change can be both beneficial and detrimental. Causes of stress are known as stressors; stressors can be physically or emotionally generated. The most common causes of stress are career change, death of a loved one, school, too much responsibilities, work, lifestyle change, and daily hassles. Children, teens, and adults are all capable of experiencing stress, but stress are more specific to the age or type of person. Too much stress can have a negative effect on one’s body, mind, and feelings. Some physical signs of stress on the body are headaches, anxiety, weight gain or loss, and high blood pressure.
