Antibiotic is a medicine that inhibits the growth of or destroys microorganisms. April 20th our class was assigned to do experiment. First step, Dr.Okeke went through the lab rule with our class. Second, our class had to get in groups of 6. Third step, Dr.Okeke gave everyone safety goggles, gloves, and mouth mask. Safety goggles are forms of protective eyewear that usually enclose or protect the area surrounding the eye in order to prevent particulates, water or chemicals from striking the eyes. We needed gloves because we using hazardous chemicals and other materials that will protect our hands from infection and contamination. Mouth mask is intended to be worn by health professionals during surgery and during nursing to catch the bacteria shed in liquid droplets and aerosols …show more content…
Gray syndrome may occur in newborns because glucuronosyl- transferase, needed to metabolize the drug, is lacking. Streptomycin is antibiotic agent obtained from Streptomyces griseus that is active against the tubercle bacillus and a large number of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria; also used in the form of dihydrostreptomycin (aldehyde of streptomycin reduced to CH2OH). It is used virtually exclusively in the treatment of tuberculosis; toxicity includes eighth cranial nerve damage leading to deafness and/or vestibular dysfunction. Tetracycline is a broad spectrum antibiotic (a naphthacene derivative), the parent of oxytetracycline, prepared from chlortetracycline and also obtained from the culture filtrate of several species of Streptomyces; also available as tetracycline hydrochloride and tetracycline phosphate complex. Tetracycline fluorescence has been used in studies of growing tumors and calcium deposition in developing bone and teeth. Dr.Okeke gave us more utilizes that were called piept, forceps, antibiotic disk, and petri dish.
