Strengthsquest Reflection

Improved Essays
As my high school career comes to a close, I realized that after 13 years of being asked “What do you want to be when you grow up?”, I still hadn’t answered the question. In 2002, a book called “StrengthsQuest” was released by Donald O. Clifton, Edward “Chip” Anderson, and Laurie A. Schreiner, in hopes it would give college students like me a simple, yet extremely helpful tool to guide them through their college experience. In this book one can find things called Signature Themes. The signature themes are given to readers after they take the “Clifton StrengthsFinder”. The purpose of these themes is to help students figure out what studying, test taking, and other academic techniques would help them succeed in their classes and future careers. …show more content…
Additionally, I want to look back at where I am now in five or ten years and be able to say “I’m here. I did it” and know that all the stress and hard work was worth it. I still have a long way to go before I’m ready to choose my career path and major, but my talents such as Restorative and Adaptability will help me succeed in fulfilling my hopes and dreams. Adaptability will be helpful because if anything goes wrong as I work toward my future, I know that it will help me go with the flow and Restorative will help me solve the problems and get back on track. Not all of my talents and themes are perfect, and through my classes or extracurricular activities, I can help further develop and hone those skills until they are perfect. I plan on continuing to develop my Deliberative talent because going through college is hard as it is, but it even more difficult when students cannot make important decisions without thinking through them for a lengthy period of time first. I will have to make decisions such as whether or not I want to change my major and what career path I want to be on. I will also have to choose between going out with friends or having an extra few hours to study or work on my assignments, and my Deliberative talent will help me make these decisions wisely and responsibly. Choosing my major and career path are just small pieces of the puzzle. My ultimate goal is to be in a career field I enjoy working in, and to be happy with my choices and what my future holds, however, my ultimate goal in life is to just be happy and content with the things that I have and have accomplished. I believe the theme Developer will help me the most as I continue towards my ultimate goal in life. Developer means I see opportunity and possibility in every situation, and without that kind of optimism, I believe I might

Wright Session 1 Journal INT-201A For many years I floundered as to what career I should pursue. The aspirations of becoming a marine biologist or an English teacher that I had held previously were no longer in line with my interests or desires. I wanted to write and work with books. Although our problem is about colleges, we don’t want students to be confused on what to do in life after college. We would get freshmen and sophomores focused on careers so as juniors they can find a college to match their career. Students would use the information we give them to fill out a worksheet for both careers and colleges to save for later use. We recognized that some students may not be interested in doing this so we decided to schedule an assembly in February where current seniors and former alumni give their experiences, stories, and regrets while preparing and applying to college. We are hoping that this will encourage students to do the worksheets and dedicate more time to preparing for…

This test described my strengths as an activator, a relator, a communicator, an empathetic person, as well as saying that I adapt very well. I can agree with StrengthsQuest that I am these five things.…

Just like any student, I often jumped back and forth on my decisions when it came to my future career as a student. Some days I wanted to be a veterinarian, some days I wanted to be a writer. I would usually just brush it off; leave it for the future Brianna to figure it out. The problem with that, though, was that I was almost halfway through with my junior year of high school. I knew that I had to start looking at colleges and deciding a major.…

A Change in Perspective Ignorance is bliss — but is it really? In the three years attending the University of California, Santa Barbara, what has plagued my mind the most is whether I am pursuing the right career. The more classes I took and was exposed to, the more knowledge I accumulated, the more I became confused. It was as if the more I learned, the more miserable I was. Perhaps this dilemma torments me more than others because of my natural tendency to want to learn everything.…

As we near the end of our junior year of high school, students at Tenor have to prepare themselves for their year at MATC. This may include continuing to work hard in our classes now, but it also includes preparing a plan to make the most of the free year of college. Thus, we have been assigned to research a career that we would consider doing in the future to learn more about it and think of an actual plan. The process involved taking personality tests to learn more about our strengths, weaknesses, and preferences, learning the basic idea of what a career entails, and developing our writing and researching skills as students. After considering what I look for in a job, my interests, and my strengths, I set my sights on researching the career of an applications software developer.…

During college, students face challenges on where they would like to go in their career. Behrens and Nauta (2014) say, “Approximately 50% of students indicate they have decided on a career by the time they enter college, over half of those with declared majors change them at least once, suggesting their goals are often still in flux” (p. 224). College students are open to career exploration, however, the challenge of making a decision causes great distress. It is most concerning when students reach the end of their college studies and feel the pressure of deciding on a career before they enter the real world. A solution for undecided students who need guidance, career counselors are available to provide support.…

Now that I am progressing toward my graduation, with about 2 to 3 semesters left it is essentially required that I begin to come up with an end game action plan that I will follow as closely as possible. Following an action plan like this will assist me if I ever come to the point of wondering what to tackle next, or if I become lost. This action plan will not be set in stone, but rather something I mold as I progress towards my end goal, which I have already set for myself by visiting with a career advisor and going through an initial evaluation. My end goal by the time of graduating is to be in a position of having a full-time job offer at a corporate company working as a Financial Analyst. To begin, I will address the actions I have done and plan to accomplish while still in college.…

Students are constantly asked, ever since a young age, the question of “what do you want to be when you grow up”, and this is a question that happens to encompass life. The idea of deciding a major just happens to be the first stepping-stone into the “real world”. Diving head first into the world of majors can be a very terrifying place, but that’s why many explore different pathways, to discover one’s true calling, one’s niche. While I am unsure about my future endeavors, I would like to think I am not going in completely blind, since I have a few possible ideas of career pathways: Nutrition, Design (Interior and Graphic), and Journalism. Nutrition, is a great field to find work in, not only is it growing, but becoming more needed with…
