The medical model
The first model is the medical model. This model aims to reduce diseases by targeting at scientifically identified high risk groups or whole populations and it is expert led. one strength of this model it is highly measurable due to statistics being used thus enabling experts to see if this approach is improving people’s health or prevent them from getting the illness. However a weakness of this model is that it depends on patient’s compliance. Not all patients will go to their appointments or get a vaccination even if they are identified as being in the high risk groups that needing one. This model means individuals should take responsibility for their own health.
Strength of this model is that it provides a lot of information on how an individual can change and why they should change, also what the effects of staying in their current stage would do to their mind and body, allowing people to make an informative decision without having the influence of making a biased choice. Conversely, a weakness of this model is that it leaves individuals to take responsibility to change their own behaviour and and not all individuals will listen or take responsibility. A second strength is that this model only encourages people to change rather than enforce change on them, therefore it would ne empowering people to change for them and not because they are being made to resulting in a better responds from people. However, another weakness of this model is that it is difficult to measure if it is being successful since it does not uses any statistics that show that people are
