In the article Rehabilitation Counselor Certification, the authors discussed the criteria that the Certified Rehabilitation Counselor Examination (CRCE) tested future candidates you wanted to be certified rehabilitation counselors. In the table “CRCE Knowledge Domain with Mean Importance Ratings” among the top four domain were: Medical, functional, and environmental aspects of disabilities; Case and caseload management; Job development and placement services, and Individual counseling” (80). This shows that rehabilitation counselors deal with both internal and external factors that affect people with disabilities. The different job settings, different job titles, career opportunities, and ability to affect future generations through research are contributors are factors that contribute to the appeal of being a rehabilitation counselor. There is a setting for every student who joins the MRC program; Patterson illustrates the point to in her article Professional Identity and the Future of Rehabilitation Counseling. “Other career avenues for rehabilitation counselors that are once again receiving increased attention include consultation, licensed practitioners, disability management, vocational experts, school-based transition programs, university disability resource centers, case management, forensic rehabilitation, and life-care planning” (pg. 130). Every student is unique and has their set of ideas and goals they want to accomplish with their master’s. Along with the diverse job setting, there is a diverse job market. A rehabilitation counselor can work under different titles “such as vocational evaluator, case manager, job placement specialist, or substance abuse counselor” (Stebnicki, pg.134). There is a place for every student once they decide what work environment is their best fit, causing an expansion in the rehabilitation counseling field.
