It is important for every individual to know what their strengths and weaknesses are. In order to realistically set goals in life it is important to know who you are and what you want in life. It allows a person to understand what limits they have and what situations they can and cannot deal with. For a person to truly known themselves they must know the important key details about themselves. They need to know what their strengths, weaknesses, likes and dislikes are, and be aware of their moods and how they react to what is happening in their environment.
They must also examine how they interact with others and learn how the environment affects them as a person. Knowing the key details about oneself allows a person to make better decisions and set and reach appropriate goals in living a productive life.
As a therapist you will work with many different types of clients. It is important to remember that you cannot change your clients, you can only change how you interact with your clients and hope for change as a result to that. Not every therapist can work with every person. There will be times when personalities will clash between a therapist and a client. The therapist may find that they are just not the right match for the client and that is ok. I think the type of client I would have the most difficulty working with would be adults who are abusive to their children.
