1. I would consider my strengths, fortunately, outweigh my weaknesses. I find that I am extremely knowledgeable in my field. This is imperative toward training my employees and subordinates. I am also very employee centered and show great care and concern for my employees. I am a solid ethical and moral person and try to convey this to my employees via my actions. I have many other qualities such as self-motivation, persistence, fairness, and decisiveness. My weaknesses on the other hand, even though few can be quite crippling. I sometimes suffer from being overwhelmed. When this happens my ability for time management tends to diminish. I will also tend to procrastinate where small and seemingly mundane tasks are concerned. This always piles up on me later which doubles back on the time management issue.
2. I have made a concerted effort of late to step back and reflect on my current management skills and abilities. Part of that reflection has resulted in me taking this class. I have been resistant to change and acceptance of my own short comings in the past. In recent times I have come to accept my need to change, adapt, and become a more transformational leader.

The art and science of leadership are much like the art and science of humanity. The art comes into play along with the contingency theory. Personal values, sense of accomplishment, skills and even intelligence. Much like a work of art, these are relative to the life experiences and personality of the artist. One artist/leader’s experience in life often affects the product and outcome of that individual’s labor. The science on the other hand, can be summed up by looking at the sheer number of leadership models. Many, but not all will resemble one another to some degree. The general science, much like natural science, will tend to follow a concept and process related directly to an

We are all different and no one should be judged for being who they are, we all have a story that one can not see with the naked eye. "It is not the critic who counts, not the man who points out where the strong man stumbles where the doer of deeds could have done better". The one who denotes where the leader missteps or shows weakness is really the one who has stumbled. The one who is engulfed in a situation that requires patience, courage, and skill may be referred to as the "man in the arena", as opposed to the man who sits on the sideline and watches just to point out mistakes. The challenges that come with being a leader have their advantages and disadvantages.…

Almost everyone in a position of leadership had someone they looked up to while finding out who they were as a leader. In my case, I have always looked up to my old football and wrestling coach. I interviewed him for this paper and asked him a couple questions about his leadership style and how he became a leader. I have always respected Coach Mac ever since I was a freshman on varsity. The thing he praises most as a leader is accountability, and just learning what went wrong or right in the situation, and learn from it.…

Leadership philosophy is a bit hard to do a self-assessment on. When we look at what defines a leader, you have to take multiple factors into consideration. The first being their military style of doing business, and the second being their personal style. I believe you have to take a leader’s personal life style into consideration as well, because it tells you what their true morals, beliefs, and personal values are. We have all had bad or horrible leaders that we had zero respect for, but I feel that we can learn something even from them.…

Leadership Kathy Dunlap Bethel University MOD 310 April 24, 2017 Kameke Payne Leadership No one theory of leadership has ever been accepted by all, but the common thought of leadership is that it is an influence process, occurs within a group, involves goals, and attainment. Some people think leaders are born with a trait that innately makes them leaders, while others theorize that it is a characteristic of an individual, but we have learned that leaders are a product of their development and life experiences. Leaders are concerned with understanding people’s beliefs and gaining their commitment. They function without focusing on the opinions of others, which allows them to think of new ideas and motivate others to develop these…

It is essential to first take a look at the definition of leadership that Northouse (2013) has identified as practices is which one impacts and influences groups of people in order to accomplish a “common goal” (Sharp, 2015). In module one, Leadership Primer, Sharp explains that in order to be an effective leader, one has to be able to “reach out and engage other people as followers” (2015). This becomes a common goal amongst leaders; however, various approaches and theories base an individual’s leadership ability on different processes. The trait approach explains leadership as assigned and inborn characteristics and argues that all leaders share the same traits such as intelligence and extraversion (Northouse, 2013). On the other hand, the skills approach explains leadership in terms of emergent skills that anyone can develop in order to become an effective leader (Northouse, 2013).…

Good leaders are important in many situations. They can help members of a group come together to complete a task or goal. It is important that leaders pay attention to their followers needs and ideas. It is equally important that followers listen and engage with their leader to build a relationship and an understanding of each other (Northouse, 2015). This ensures that both the leader and followers are comfortable seeking help from one another and working together.…

More importantly, they allowed me to better understand my own strengths and weaknesses, and how to better develop them. This understanding is essential to me as a future practitioner in the events industry. In this essay, I will discuss my own leadership style as “pacesetting” based on the self-assessment result proposed by Daniel Goleman (2000).
