My history as a writer is somewhat brief. If the basics of learning to read and write are to be excluded, my experience as a writer spans less than a decade. I would say that I first started writing, as I now understand it, I was ten years old. Since then, I have learned writing formally and informally both in and out of a classroom setting. I would even say that I have learned the most about writing from outside of the classroom.…

I learned proofreading is a harder than I though when I have no idea what the main question to be answered is. Proofreading a fellow students paper in a class where everyone is writing about the same thing is much easier. The classmates paper I read was missing the abstract, which brings the paper together as a whole. It was a challenge to provide feedback, as I did not want know what sub topic the writer was trying to convey.…

In order to improve my writing style, I made several appointments for the Mary Baldwin College Writing Center. The Writing Center is where I learned how to form an outline, review and revise my essays, in order to create a thorough and well written final draft for both my English 102 and French Literature 270 course. I learned that I have a tendency to use repetition when repetition is not needed, and I discovered that I can strengthen the natural flow of my analyses by reading and rereading my papers aloud. Reading aloud helped me catch mistakes in my writing that I normally would…

Writing an English academical essay was not always an easy task for me since I am used to telling my stories in a border or narrow sense because of some cultural and linguistic differences from English. I always started by writing the essay to myself and I often don’t think about the reader been someone else, I wrote as I am writing a letter to myself or a personal journal, making the essay too specific or too general. For instance, my favorite question to begin writing was, “why am I writing about this subject” or “which information about this subject I need to mention”. These questions often lead me to answer them to myself, which is a little selfish to the reader whom may get lost on my essay or even worst get confused about some of the…
