“Strengthening communication to overcome lateral violence” addresses several ways that lateral violence affects the nursing community. Studies show that 90% of nurses have experienced, committed, or witnessed lateral violence. It also states that since lateral violence is commonly seen in a workplace, it eventually becomes second-nature thus allowing it to continue. In this article, a study about lateral violence and prevention, they found that through a series of strengthening communication workshops, helped decrease lateral violence from a 90% to 76% according to a survey they conducted. Many factors are stated why lateral violence is so common and how and for what reasons it continues to be a problem. One example is job insecurity.
