Strengthen: A Case Study Of The Atlanta Braves

Decent Essays
The Atlanta Braves have an open hole at first base when Freddie Freeman went down with a wrist injury this week. The Braves brought in James Loney to fill the void but he will now transition to a bench role with Matt Adams being the new kid in town and everyday 1st baseman until Freeman returns.

For some time now, Matt Adams has been losing opportunities due to the fact that the Cardinals have solidified their outfield with Dexter Fowler, Stephen Piscotty, and Randal Gruchuck and with Matt Carpenter being their everyday 1st baseman, Matt Adams is just treading water and needed to get out of St. Louis.

Heading to the Cardinals is Juan Yepez, Yepez is a 20-year old infielder still rising through the Braves system and is mainly known for hitting

The Orioles recently resigned Chris Davis to a 7 year and $161 million dollar contract. As Jon wrote at the time (http://camdendepot.blogspot.com/2016/01/orioles-go-slightly-bananas-and-sign.html), Davis brings to the immediate a strong bat with a heavy right handed favored split. It’s pretty simple honestly, people like Chris Davis because he has elite power and can absolutely crush pitches. Meanwhile, CBS Sports (http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/25451265/report-chris-davis-agrees-to-7-year-deal-to-return-to-orioles) argues that he still strikes out a lot, but made small strides with his plate discipline last season.…

Clayton Kershaw is on the mend from a lower back injury, but before the All-Star break, he was looking like the presumptive NL Cy Young winner. Unfortunately, he still hasn’t made it back from his injury, but it seems like he will be returning pretty soon. If I was going to go out on a prediction on what day he will return, it would probably be in this upcoming week. Clayton Kershaw finished off the first half of the season with a 1.79 ERA, 0.73 WHIP, and an impressive 9 walks in 121 innings played. If Kershaw can return with similar numbers, he will definitely be the front runner for the NL Cy Young Award and possibly the NL MVP.…

Elite pitchers have been the story in Major League Baseball(MLB) this past season. Many pitchers were outstanding and fantastic all year, but there were two pitchers that set themselves apart from the rest by becoming the true elite pitchers, Clayton Kershaw and Jake Arrieta. Clayton Kershaw was brought into the MLB in 2006 by the Los Angeles dodgers. Being an already effective pitcher, Kershaw got drafted in the first round, getting the seventh pick overall. He would make his MLB debut on May 25, 2008.…

But the ninth inning is a whole different animal, and these three guys are some of the best in the bigs. We saw Dellin Betances struggle to hold his own as a closer, and although he may have been able to make the adjustment, the Chapman signing was absolutely necessary. To get him, he were going to have to be paid in full. In the end, the Yankees paid to get the man they wanted, and the Dodgers paid to get their closer to return to LA. With Chapman and Jansen being two of the best in the business, their contract values should come as a surprise to no one, as they earned the right to ask for five years, and almost twice as much as the previous record for any relief pitcher.…
