1. As a social worker, I would look at their strength perspective first because I would want my clients to see how they could use their positive qualities to solve other issues going on among them. One example of a strength perspective for these teens is that they are still enrolled in school and are still attending school regularly. Also, how their grades aren’t completely failing grades that they are keeping them in the average percentile. And I would also look at how it hasn’t lead them to do drug or gang activities, which most teens tend to do when they are having behavior programs. Another strength is that they haven’t got physically violent. In which we can use these things to help build where they’re weak we can find other resources …show more content…
And as far as Maria goes I would be sure to remind them that she is connecting with her peers and is being a sociable. Also, I would look at how she is willing to ask them for money, instead of her stealing items that she want. How I would go about solving this problem is getting the parents to see that she rather have sleepovers than to sneak out at night and do things she shouldn’t be doing, at least when she is at home they know what she is doing. Also, I stated society environment because we tend to allow society to dedicate how our lives should be ran because of our role and expectations. And right now, what is causing the boys to act in this way is because their mother is intimate with the same sex, which may cause others to frown upon them as well as their family. Children coming from these families where parents abuse substances and are a high risk and need effective interventions to not follow the same path as their parents. It is very difficult to provide services specifically designed for children because they require a very unique style of intervention to help heal and recover from the affects their parents had caused for them (Lewis, Holmes, Watkins, & Mathers 2015). The programs that have been designed from children normally revolve around coping skills, interpersonal relationships, developing positive identity and self-esteem, and are normally done in a group setting to help strengthen relationships with peers and build a support system for like individuals. One program that has been found to improve social skills for girls and reduce feelings of social isolation in boys is the Betty Ford Children’s Program. Another influential program was the Stress Management and Alcohol Awareness Program, which focused on self-esteem and coping strategies that use a psycho-educational approach to address this substance abuse.…

The strengths approach is relevant and effective in the field of social work. It builds on the strengths of a person and thus empowers them, this in-turn helps that person to think more positively and it is realised that they are able to cope with difficult situations (Geldard, Geldard and Foo, 2017). Interpersonal skills are essential in providing affective services such as counselling. Some of these skills are building rapport, effective listening, paraphrasing and summarising and using appropriate tools, Geldard et al., 2017). I begin my interview with rapport building, checking how Katrina is and how she has been since the last time I saw her (time, 0:00).…

When choosing an occupation, it is common for individuals to chase after the job with more pay and less physical labor. However, the jobs with higher salary require more education, more logical thinking, and more self- driven. Unfortanatley, not everyone can afford to attend college and land in a high paying job. In today's society, occupations are based on prestige and judged on the order they rank. From viewing the occupational prestige table on page 227, a cab driver compared to a high school teacher earns less prestige in which I personally agree due to the fact that a cab driver requires less education and abstract thought than becoming certified in teaching.…
