The character that is the most powerful is Curley. This is because when he wants something, he gets it. Also, when they were hunting down Lennie after he killed his wife Curley said “I’m gonna get him. I’m going for my shotgun. I’ll kill the big son-of-a-bitch myself. I’ll shoot ‘im in the guts. Come on you guys”(96). This is saying that since he is the boss's son that everyone will follow his demand.
The next character that is powerful is Curley’s wife. The reason she is next is because she is married to the boss’s son and also, she is the female on the ranch which gives her more power. The reason why he is so low on the totem pole and it is because he doesn’t think before he acts. In the book, George says “You was gonna leave your big flapper shut and leave me do the talkin’. Damn near lost us the job”. Lennie stared hopelessly at his hands. “I forgot, George,”(23). This is saying that since he didn’t think before he acted, he about lost George and his job.
Like I said in the beginning, it doesn’t matter if you are the brains, the jock, or just a normal person, the one who is more dominant will outcast the other people.
