The Streetcorner Man mainly involves Francisco Real, Rosendo Juarez and the unknown man. Francisco Real, known as “The Butcher”, came to Maldonado to find Francisco Real and challenged him into fight. But then Rosendo Juarez, “The Slasher”. First, is the unknown man’s pride for his town, Maldonado. He was extremely degraded by how the outsiders act in their own territory. It was even stated by the unknown man, “Boy, it galled me seeing that—it was as much as saying we weren’t good enough to clip a lousy guitar.The thought that we were bunch of nobody’s really hadme burned up,and I snatched the carnation from behind my ear and threw it in a puddle.” that describes how he felt by the outsider’s presence. Second, the act of murder was demonstrated as an act of revenge. It is the act of the unknown man’s revenge toward the outsider Francisco Real. The unknown wants to avenge him due to fact that his pride and Maldonado’s pride was demeaned. At the last part of the story the unknown man confessed to Borges, “Then, Borges, I put myhand inside my vest—here by the left armpit where I always carry it—and took my knife out again. The murder happened not only to Lonnrot but also with Sharlarch. Lonnrot is an investigator who likes unusual mysteries. On the other hand Scharlarch has this madness into Lonnrot due to his imprisonment of Scharlarch’s brother. Due to this Scharlarch made a meticulous series of crime to entice Lonnrot. It was stated by Scharlarch, “Well, I have woven it and it’s tight. Its materials are a dead rabbi, a compass, an eighteenth century sect, a Greek word, a dagger, and the diamond shaped patterns on a paint-wall store”. This series of crime that leads Lonnrot into the Triste-le-Roy where the murder will took place. At first, Lonnrot has no idea about his death, what he thought is that Schrlarch will be the next victim. As he went at the Triste-le-roy, Lonnrot the describes, “Night was falling when he saw the line of the rectangular mirador of the Villa Triste-Le-Roy, almost as tall as the sourrounding balck eucalyptus trees. He thougght thatonly one more daw and one more dusk were all that separated him from the hour appointed by the seekers of the Name.” The triste-le roy was surrounded by maze which in the end Sharlarch will be there and killed
