Street racing sport grew over time after World War II when G.I.’s had worked on both car and plane engines, then G.I’s started working on their own cars after the war ended. In the United States, street racing became popular in the 1950s when C.J. “Pappy” Hart brought the drag racing to Orange County, California. Hart’s was the first drag strip charged admission at the Orange County Airport.
There are three types of street racing: an impromptu race occurs spontaneously; an organized race is planned in advance and a hat race where racers are competing for money or a registration paper on the vehicle.
