Strays In Third World Countries

Decent Essays
The ethical debate continues as modern countries try to import the strays from third world countries to reduce the overpopulation of the strays in other countries. This has unfortunately been a disaster. Shipment of stray dogs from Puerto Rico met a terrible fate, while they travel to the mainland of United States, most of the dog had been exposed to parvovirus and distemper, two extreme painful and deadly diseases, 107 of the 222 dogs in the shipment died and 185,000 dollars was spent for veterinary treatments of the remaining dogs. The amount of money spent on the remaining dogs could have easily be use to set up a vaccine, spay and neuter program of strays in Puerto Rico, more strays would have benefited and less dies would have occurred.

According to Peter Fenton, writer and loving pet owner, author of “Vets Are Too Expensive, and it’s Putting Pets at Risk”, veterinarians intend to find out how much profit they can make off of the love owners have for their pets. Fenton argues veterinarians are using the love of pet owners for their own benefit, while leaving those in questionable financial situations without any veterinary care at all. Fenton delivers a convincing argument supported with data and emotional appeals, but his failure to adequately consider opposing facts and credible opinion calls into question not only his conclusion, but the logic of his argument.…

Because dogs and puppies are neglected and individuals continue to purchase puppies from pet stores or the Internet, a solution is desperately needed. C. The solution that I propose is: I propose that stricter laws regulating puppy mills be enforced both at the federal and state level and that individuals stop purchasing puppies from pet stores but instead look to other alternatives such as animal shelters. 1. Stricter laws protecting dogs and puppies in puppy mills will help decrease the number of animals suffering. Currently, approximately 20 states have laws protecting dogs in puppy mills.…

For many activists, it is hard to understand how inhumane it is to keep some animals as pets. “Animals,” as one activist says it, “are not here for our happiness.” While there is a substantial difference in how we raise animals (within terms of stray, wild, and domestic animals), there is no say in the animals life on how they should be treated. Finally, he seems to indirectly state some of the obvious logic that we are superior and it is only the way of life that we eat meat and research on animals to make life a little easier. It is possible that we can cure cancer or find a way to stop infestations, or even cause breeding to increase, which could increase the amount food…

Introduction Animal extortion is an ongoing issue in relationship to animal welfare and rights. There seems to be some ethical areas that individuals feel need to be changed on how humans use animals for human personal benefits. The argument supporting animal extortion and maltreatment has been the same for generations, including this view on animals used for experiments, “These benefits to humans far outweigh the costs in suffering that relatively few animals have had to endure. Society has an obligation to maximize the opportunities to produce such beneficial consequences, even at the cost of inflicting some pain on animals” (Andre & Velasquez, 1988). When looking at public policy and a resolution, it becomes a question of overcoming this…

Topic: Adopting and Rescuing Animals Specific Purpose: To persuade my effective speaking class the benefits of adopting a pet over buying one from a breeder or pet store. Central Idea: Adopting animals and rescuing is much more beneficial than buying an animal from a pet store because you won’t be unknowingly or knowingly supporting a puppy mill, you will be saving an animal’s life, and you will feel better overall in the end about rescuing your new pet rather than buying. INTRODUCTION Attention-Getter: According to Humane Society of the United States organization’s website I accessed on December 6, 2016, “Each year, 2.7 million adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized in the United States, simply because too many pets come into shelters and…
