The Last Straw Game Analysis

The game, “The Last Straw”, displayed the different experiences each individual went through based on their gender, socioeconomic status (SES), race, and ethnicity. Group 1 created a character named Zaid. He was male, had a socioeconomic status of 3 (middle class), he was a person of color and his ethnicity was Pakistani. As Zaid grew up, he lived in a stable environment during his childhood years. However, in his adolescence years, he recognized that he was gay, unlike the other characters where many were heterosexual. Zaid grew older and he eventually graduated from college and his SES improved by going from 3 to 4. He worked a well-paying job however, by the time of the recession, he was experiencing discrimination at his workplace. Their lives would have been prolonged if the system became more efficient in helping the entire community. For Jen and the other characters, access to healthcare would helped the characters in controlling their health and taking care of themselves. Also programs that helped with recovering from drug usage would have helped smokers in reforming to a healthier life style because even if other wealthier characters smoked, they were able to afford various medicines to help their health unlike the less privileged characters. The less privileged had a harder time accessing faculties that would help them in improving their health in the long term, which explains why those characters experienced the likelihood of dying young more. “The Last Straw” displays when more support given to those areas, the more likely the people will be able to strive for success, which will help them live longer but without the help, the people do not have a foundation to step on which would help them get out of
