Straus’s life started in Otterberg, Germany, on February 6th, 1845. He spent the first years of his life as a normal, German child attending school and helping the family. Only a few years later, he decided to marry Ida Blun, the woman he’d be with for the rest of his life. Some time later, he would become a partner for R.H. Macy & Co, which is now known as Macy’s department store, a large business widely seen throughout the United States Territories. After bringing success and contribution to the company, he joined the table and became a joint owner, which landed him in his $140,000,000 (modern currency evaluation) fortune.
