Hewlett-Packard Inc. (HP) is currently an industry leader in personal computing, printing, and technology. Hewlett-Packard has had an interesting start which has led them to the company they are today.
Overview of HP
Start
HP Inc. started in a garage in Palo Alto, California, which is at the heart of the “Silicon Valley” today. The company was started by two friends, Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard, in 1938. Bill and Dave both graduated from Stanford University. They started the company with $538 to work with. “The $538 consists of cash and a used Sears Craftsman drill press” (HP Garage Timeline, N.D.). The first product developed by HP was an audio oscillator which tests sound equipment.
The company became Hewlett-Packard when Dave and Bill officially became partners on January 1, 1939. August 18, 1947 Hewlett-Packard became a corporation. Hewlett-Packard Enterprise does networking switches, routers, access-points, servers, and software, whereas the HP Inc. does personal devices, computers, and printers.
Purpose
HP Inc. provides technology solutions to the everyday consumers, businesses, and schools, through developing computers, devices, printers, and etc.
Industry
HP Inc. is in the technology industry which makes it to where they have to be spending a lot of time and money on development and research. The technology industry is constantly changing as new inventions come out every day. In the past HP had been in multiple industries such as sound equipment, medical equipment, networking equipment, calculators, and computers. HP left the medical equipment industry in 1999. The networking equipment is no longer part of their company after the split of Hewlett-Packard Enterprise and HP
