The following document analyse the WhatsApp brand, the competitive advantage it has ,market Environment as well as major Strategic Marketing issues and responses in that industry. It looks at the competition that WhatsApp faces. It also gives the marketing strategies that WhatsApp have put in place, although the co-founder of WhatsApp Jon Kuom said that WhatsApp did not adopt any marketing strategy, a little bit of marketing exist.

WhatsApp unique selling point is that it does not have advertisements. So users can enjoy all day texting without interruptions from advertisements.
Place- WhatsApp is available on multiple mobile-platforms, Apple Operating System, Android, Windows etc.
Price- It is free to download and operate WhatsApp. It operates on the mobile data that users use for emails and browsing the web. It requires an update every 12 months that cost only $0.99.
Promotion- WhatsApp is mostly promoted through word-of –mouth. Users refer WhatsApp to their friends and families. Some advertisement on Television and internet is available.
Branding

WhatsApp has established a strong brand that communicates free messaging to customers. WhatsApp has realized the need for 1-1 communication. As other social media such as Facebook and Twitter allow users to send messages, pictures and videos to more than one person and enable other people to comment or like, WhatsApp played on the need to have some privacy and for direct communication at a cheaper price. WhatsApp is solely focused on messaging directly and on group chats. After updating WhatsApp users still have the same user interface. There are no games on WhatsApp. So some users do prefer to play games online while chatting, so that when they have to wait for a response from the other user they have something to do. The other gap in WhatsApp is lack of security. Sophisticated hackers are able to hack other users’ accounts. WhatsApp does not have a quick way to cancel the account in case of stolen phone. The users have to wait until their providers terminates their mobile numbers. Other concerns is that WhatsApp sell users phone numbers to third parties who use those numbers to send advertisement
