In order for organizations to compete in a rapidly increasing globalized business market organizations must invest with a purpose in learning and development of its leaders. Deloitte Global Human Capital Trends 2015 report shared that while many of the organizations surveyed believe corporate learning and development of leaders is extremely important many are unequipped to handle this challenge. The development of strategic leaders both personally and professionally is pivotal in the forward progression of the organization and has a substantial impact on its stakeholders. Strategic Leadership “requires us to think, act, and influence others in ways that promote the enduring success of the organization.” Such a critical position, requires a substantial investment in learning and development with the goal of yielding quality leaders. Exceptional leadership in return adds value which positively impacts the organization as a whole. Former President, Ronald Raegan once said “The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things." Strategic thinking “is a powerful leadership tool that gives organizations the foresight and insight needed to succeed in the long term, especially when applied throughout the organization”. Strategic thinking produces business opportunities, yields solutions, and advances the organization. Organizations that fail to utilize strategic thinking and execution as tools may not thrive in a competitive global market. Although, strategic thinking and execution of planning are challenging tasks for organizations and leaders, it is imperative that they foster these skills.
