Stranger Things Research Paper

Stranger Things is a Netflix original series that takes place in 1983 Hawkins, Indiana. Throughout the first season, three boys discover the reality of another world that coexists with our own while trying to find their lost friend, Will Byers. With the help of a government experiment named Eleven, the boys are able to understand that Will is stuck in another dimension. Using the boys’ Dungeons and Dragons game board, she explains that Will is stranded a world very much like their own. According to the game’s handbook, "The Vale of Shadows is a dimension that is a dark reflection or echo of our world. It is a place of decay and death. It is right next to you and you don't even see it" (Stranger Things). They, along with several other relatives and community members, find out that Will is stuck there based on his communication with them through telephone, Christmas lights, and radio. Intrigued, and wanting to save their friend, the boys consult their science teacher and mentor, Mr. Clarke. According to him and his acrobat and flea paper plate analogy,

This theory is based on the idea that under a microscope, an electron is a tiny loop of a string (Güijosa). Characteristically, that string can oscillate, and if it does so in a certain way, it appears as an electron, but if does in other ways, it can be seen as another subatomic particle (Güijosa). Essentially, everything is made of strings that vibrate in a way that give them distinct properties ("String Theory”). Similarly to an instrument such as a piano, different frequencies produce different particles, and this comparison brings forth unification (Greene 2005). This concept is reinforced by physicists’ recent detection of gravitational waves, which can be used to help further “probe” into more radical theories
