The reason schools have drills is because we need to prepare for the worst. In case that there may be an electric fire, or there is a tornado around the area. Another reason is if we didn’t have drills, almost 60% of US school kids would have been obliterated by a tornado or burned to death by an electric fire. One easy way to keep from getting hurt during a real tornado is either go to a room without much glass if you’re at home, go and hide in a tornado shelter or a basement. If you’re at school, the teachers will give you directions on what to do, but in most cases the most basic thing to do is hide under the table(s) or desk(s). In some schools they have three colors or levels: Green for an all clear (continue the day as normal), Yellow for a door lock down (you continue with caution), and the last one is code red (during this you lock the classroom doors and hide by the wall where the intruder can’t see you). Another reason we do these types of drills is just to show children of all ages what to do, and what not to do in a situation like this. The worst thing that someone can do is make a loud enough noise that the intruder can hear you and know you’re in that specific room. There is a great chance that they will not leave. All in all, most parents think that the drills are not necessary and they should not take their children to practice the drills.
