The value of education has a say in what your future in school will be like. Three authors will show us how important education is to them and how they were able to learn. The way people live their lives is usually how they want their children to live their lives. This was true for Mark Mathabane when he tells us about his early life and for the first time going to school. In his book Kaffir Boy he quotes his mom who says,”Your father and I fought because I took you to school this morning” (8). Here Mark is explaining that his father grew up thinking that school is useless and no one needs it. So when Mark went to school, his mom got in trouble because his father disapproved of what happened. Another example is when Mark quotes his mother who says,“He says he doesn’t have money to waste paying for you to get what he calls a useless white man’s education”(8). In this quote Mark shows us that his father would rather buy anything besides education and that he didn’t want his own child to have success. In the sixth grade I simply concluded that what gave a book its value was some major idea it contained”(3). In this quote he tells us that books to him were life and that’s how you get success. In another quote he says, “I entered high school having read hundreds of books. My habit of reading made me a confident speaker and writer of english”(4). Richard shows us that reading not only helped him become a better reader but it improved his speaking and writing capability.
