He explains how beautiful nature is and how he enjoys to just sit on his horse and watch the stars, and the moon. To me he is referencing the beautiful relationship between nature and the moon. It then mentions “On the descending moon,” which to me means that the moon the falling behind the tree line in the distance, which is representing that the sun is going to be rising soon (Wordsworth 20). But after talking about it in class and thinking more about it specifically I think it could mean something more to the rest of the story. After he talks about the “descending moon” he continues to ride closer to Lucy’s house and the moon was falling behind the cottages roof (20). At this moment in the poem, he has a thought that something bad has happened to Lucy and now he is worried. He says, “what foolish and difficult thoughts to control slide into his head about his lover,” he is having bad thoughts that something has happened to his lover (Wordsworth 25). At the end of the poem he has this thought that Lucy might be dead, but we have no reason as to why he believes she might be dead. Since before he was admiring nature, he might have noticed something different within nature through the moonlight and that is when the thought of Lucy might be dead crossed his mind. Since the relationship between nature and the moon is very important to him whenever he
